Building a Webpage Guide

A website is your online shop window, a virtual extension to your physical shop.

So it is vital that it reflects who you are and what your business does both effectively and efficiently. This is achievable with a combination of good content, design and coded webpages.

Previously we've followed Tom in my Building a Website Guide which explains the basic elements and steps that are needed when making a website, including Domain name, Design, Content, Hosting and support.

But what about the actual building of the website pages themselves? Are there guidelines to how a webpage should be constructed, set out or what it needs to include?

In short Yes!

From how the page is structured to having the relevant info in the correct place. These can effect how your website performs with its load speed, search engine optimisation (SEO) ranking and most importantly User Experience (UX) and Accessibility.

Knowing the fundamentals of a good webpage is essential to help you through the Self Build process. But it's also important for those having their website designed / built by a design agency too. It'll help you know if you're getting the quality website you've paid for and deserve.

So we'll carry on following the progress of Tom and his Cupcake Cat Bakery as I build the first page of his chosen website design.

But before jumping straight in and building Tom's website. Let me explain some of the basics of a website and webpage for you first.
